Body, mind and spirit are the three elements that work together to make possible our existence here on earth. Balancing these elements through living a healthy life style is essential to experiencing a fulfilling life of love, joy and harmony. In this three part article I will provide you with information on how to live a healthier life style in accordance with my research and personal experience. Our bodies are a vehicle that our spirit uses to operate in the physical world. It is a temple for something far more sacred and valuable than the sun, moon and stars. How we care for it directly affects us both physically and spiritually.
The first and most important step taken in my pursuit of living a healthier life style was changing my diet. What you eat and drink is by far the most important factor when it comes to health. Healthy food develops, replaces and repairs cells and tissue. It produces energy to keep us warm, moving and working. It helps in the development of strong bones, muscles and tendons. It also helps protect against, resists, and fight off infection as well as recover from sickness. After expanding my self-awareness I began changing my eating habits. I started with my fluid intake. I cut out all soda, unnatural, and inorganic beverages. These are all high in sugar, fructose syrup and other artificial sweeteners. This leads to diabetes, cardiovascular disease, liver disease and many more illnesses. I replaced all of these with alkaline water (ph7.5 or higher) and natural organic beverages. I also eliminated meat and dairy from my diet with one of the several reasons being that they are packed with pesticides, antibiotics, drugs, heavy metals and hormones. In place of meat I began eating more fresh organic vegetables, fruits, nuts and grain. It has been proven that a vegan diet is the healthiest diet one can practice. Most illnesses today are caused by what we eat and drink such as: Cancer, strokes, heart attacks, liver disease, high blood pressure etc. The benefits of this transition have been life changing. I felt happier, more energetic, lighter (spiritually & physically), mentally sharper, internally cleaner and ultimately healthier. Next time you eat, think benefits and health first. I recommend that all view the documentary called “Forks Over Knives” as it goes into more detail on diet and health. Daniel1:12-15-“Please test your servants for ten days, and let us be given some vegetables to eat and water to drink… At the end of the ten days they looked healthier and better nourished than any of the young men who ate the royal food.”
The next step is changing your environment and exposing yourself to the loving care of nature. Being surrounded by technology both indoors and outdoors has a negative effect on the body and human behavior. These devices and house products that we expose ourselves to give off radiation, radio waves, hazardous frequencies, toxins and much more. I put forth much effort in reducing the use of electronics. Then I started spending more time outdoors under the sun, near trees, or areas surrounded by more nature and less technology. I also filled my house up with the proper healthy house plants. According to the N.A.S.A. clean air study; plants in your home remove 90% of toxins from your home such as formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene. These changes have been shown to decrease the risks of cancers, asthma, allergies, auto-immune disorders and depression. No man-made medication or product can match the nutritional benefits of nature. I found from my personal experience that I was relieved of stress, rarely sick, filled with inner peace, more aware, and spiritually heightened. The Native Americans had a wise saying “take a man away from nature and his heart becomes hardened.”
Finally the last important steps taken in my pursuit are exercise and sleep. Our bodies were designed to be physically active, that is why the more you exercise the more your body becomes fit. As you work hard and exercise, your body transforms into a stronger more perfect machine. Besides receiving a fit body, your health sky rockets. The benefits of exercising include reduced stress, boosting of happy chemicals (endorphins), increased self-confidence, prevention of cognitive decline, anxiety control, boost of brain power, sharpened memory, addiction control, weight control, combats health conditions & diseases, improved mood, boosts energy, promotes better sleep and the list goes on. Sleep is even more important. Studies have shown that sleep deficiency is linked to an increased risk of heart disease, kidney disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, strokes and fatality. You are supposed to get at least eight hours of sleep every day. According to the National Sleep foundation sleep is involved in healing and the repair of your heart and blood vessels. Sleep helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). It also promotes healthy growth, development, recovery, memory and a stronger immune system. Get plenty of rest and find a fun healthy work out that is convenient for you and work your body out to greatness.
1 Corinthians 6:19-“Do you not know that your body is the temple of The Holy Spirit…”To obtain a healthy body start eating healthy, make nature your environment, exercise frequently, and rest well. These are a few ways that I have found highly effective on my journey to a healthier life style. The benefits are countless, extraordinary and life changing. I would like for my audience to meditate upon this last quote. “Just because you’re not sick doesn’t mean you are healthy.” Love yourself, respect, and care for your temple. Good health equals a long life. Add longevity to your agenda through a healthy life style.
